    SHRM Essentials of HR Management

    The SHRM Essentials® of HR Management is a two-day introductory course offering a comprehensive overview of human resource roles and responsibilities.  This course is designed for those who are beginning in the human resource profession or those who are looking to increase their employee management skills.  This program has been approved for 13.50 (HR(General)) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute.
    During the course participants will:

    Review key pieces of federal legislation on sexual harassment, age discrimination, and the Family and Medical Leave Act
    Improve employee recruitment and selection while avoiding legal pitfalls
    Understand the importance of effectively communicating base pay, incentive compensation, and benefits information to staff at all levels
    Increase your knowledge of employee orientation, onboarding, development, and training
    Learn the process, methods, and purpose of performance appraisals

    Instructor Stephanie Perry is the Director of Human Resources at the University of Virginia's College at Wise. She is the current SHRM district director for Southwest Virginia and past SHRM chapter president. She has also earned her PHR certification from SHRM.  Perry holds a Master of Science in Management from Liberty University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from UVa-Wise.
