The 2019 first quarter meeting for Southwest Virginia SHRM will be hosted by Curtis Lawyer, Business Development Executive with MedCost Virginia. During his educational presentation on Understanding Self-Funded Health Plans, participants will:
1. identify the main components of a self-funded health plan, comparing and contrasting to fully insured plans
2. Learn important health plan terminology
3. Gain an actionable understanding of fundamental cost drivers and cost containment strategies.
4. Recognize important considerations before planning a conversion to self-funding.
With the rising costs of health care, employers are looking for effective ways to manage the cost of benefit plans for their employees, searching for the balance of quality medical care and managing the costs to the company and to the individual. With a self-funded health plan, employers assume the fiduciary responsibility associated with healthcare costs in exchange for financial benefits and more choice in what their health plan acutally offers. Understanding your health plan is a key element to realizing its best potential impact.
