Southwest Virginia SHRM members are not required to be members of the larger national/global SHRM organization but we strongly encourage it.

IMPORTANT for SHRM Members: If you are a member of SHRM National/Global, and we sincerely hope you are, please also designate chapter #430 as your local chapter by contacting the SHRM Member Relations Teamat at SHRM.memberrelations@shrm.org or (800) 283-SHRM to update your member record. Alternatively, you can also update your record by completing the SHRM Primary Chapter Designation Form (a Word document download) and faxing it to: SHRM Member Relations (703) 739-0399.
MEMBERSHIP TYPES:
Professional Member: Professional members may vote and hold office in the chapter. Current national SHRM membership is required to hold the office of Chapter President or President-Elect throughout the duration of the office term. To be eligible to join as a professional member you must be a
- practitioner of human resource management at the exempt level for at least three years
- certified by the Human Resource Certification Institute
- faculty member holding an assistant, associate or full professor rank in human resource management or any of its specialized functions at an accredited college or university and have at least three years of experience at this level of teaching
- full-time consultant with at least three years experience practicing in the field of human resource management
- business owner or executive who have sole or primary responsibility for exempt level human resources management functions among your other duties
- full-time attorney with at least three years experience in counseling and advising clients on matters relating to the human resource profession
- Professional members may vote and hold office in the chapter.
Associate Member: This membership designation is designed for individuals in non-exempt human resource management positions as well as those individuals who do not meet the qualifications of the other classes of membership, but who demonstrate a bona fide interest in human resource management and the mission of the Chapter. Associate members may not vote or hold office in the Chapter.
Student Member: Student members may not vote or hold office in the Chapter.Individuals who are eligible for student membership are
- enrolled either as full-time or part-time students, at freshman standing or higher;
- enrolled in the equivalent of at least six (6) credit hours;
- enrolled in a four-year or graduate institution and/or a consortium of these or a two-year community college with a matriculation agreement between it and a four-year college or university which provides for automatic acceptance of the community college students into the four-year college or university;
- able to provide verification of a demonstrated emphasis in human resource management subjects, and
- able to provide verification of the college or university's human resources or related degree program.
Retired Member: A member in good standing at the time of retirement from any firm or organization or institution, may become a Retired Life Member by meeting the eligibility requirements and payment of dues, if applicable.
